The E-Tourism Initiative is the electronic component of UNCTAD’s Task Force on Sustainable Tourism for Development, established in June 2003. The Task Force aims to design and implement an UNCTAD-wide integrated programme on tourism as a engine for development, particularly focused on the needs of LDCs.
The work of the task force is to:
- Coordinate UNCTAD's activities in the field of tourism as a tool for development, particularly focused on the needs of the LDCs;
- Promote partnerships with international organizations, NGOs and private or public institutions.
The UNCTAD task force on sustainable tourism for development prepared a pre-UNCTAD XI meeting on sustainable tourism for development, which was held from 8 to 11 March 2004 in Lisbon; a training package on sustainable tourism covering all areas of the UNCTAD work; and the E-Tourism Initiative.
