Ecuador became officially part of COMPAL in July 2011 at the occassion of the II COMPAL annual Conference in Bogota.
As a result of the specific work done by UNCTAD in Ecuador during 2009 and 2010, in particular, with international events about competition policies and their link with intellectual property and a forum for consumers in Ecuadorian cities such as Cuenca and Guayaquil, Ecuador, with their own resources, the Government of Ecuador requested UNCTAD’s technical assistance, COMPAL, to organize an international forum on Consumer Protection. In fact, during the period 2010-2011, the work of COMPAL in Ecuador was materialized through the organization of a mega-event on consumer protection in Latin America and the Caribbean during 9-11 March 2011, titled “First international forum on consumer protection”.
