Group of Fifteen Summit Meeting, Havana
14 September 2006 - The 13th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Group of Fifteen held in Havana, Cuba reiterated the commitment of the Group to the Global System of Trade Preferences (GSTP) among developing countries. In their Joint Communique, the Group of Fifteen said as follows:
"We recognize the importance of exploiting the full potential of South-South trade and thus stress the need to work towards further expansion and deepening of preferential trade liberalization among develoing countries on a global basis. We therefore reiterate our commitment to the Global System of Trade Preferecnes (GSTP) among developing countries. We emphasize, in this regard, that the 3rd round of negotiations launched in Sao Paulo in 2004 at UNCTAD XI has considerable potential for strengthening South-South trade and cooperation. We urge developing countries to intensify negotiations on market access and rule-making towards the speedy conclusion of this Round, in accordance with the Sao Paulo mandate."
