The internship programme of COMPAL will be carried out with the support of the Swiss Competition Commission (COMCO). This represents a unique opportunity to learn from the experience of a developed agency on competition law enforcement.

Thanks to the efforts of COMCO, more than ten interns from COMPAL beneficiary countries will study aspects of the Swiss competition system and will identify common features between Switzerland and their own home countries so as to use those experiences in competition investigations in their own institutions. This will also represent an opportunity to enhance contacts with key Swiss national authorities, such as the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), donor for the COMPAL Programme.

Likewise, COMCO will benefit from the exchange of experiences with Latin American competition-related officials, particularly when it comes to exchanging information on cases, final decisions, legal documents and intercultural exchange. Furthermore, COMCO will widen its knowledge in foreign competition systems by working together with interns from Latin American countries.

Another feature of this Programme is that COMCO will take active part in international discussions on technical assistance activities. In this regard, COMCO will cooperate more closely with SECO in this common endeavour. Finally, it is envisaged that COMCO officials will exchange working knowledge with international colleagues, thereby establishing common denominators between different backgrounds and cultures.
