In view of the country-by-country approach adopted by COMPAL, national project coordinators (NPCs) and their local institutions will be primarily responsible for undertaking the proposed activities in the specified time frame. UNCTAD's main role will be that of facilitating and supporting local partners in meeting their objectives. In doing so, UNCTAD will ensure that the objectives and activities of COMPAL are part of the plans of the local institutions.

Two sets of inputs will be provided by UNCTAD to COMPAL:

  • The first is the overall supervision of project. This will draw on UNCTAD’s experience in managing and implementing development projects in the area of competition law and policy.
  • The second is analytical support for the project’s activities, as required by COMPAL. In this regard, staff from UNCTAD’s Competition and Consumer Protection Branch, as well as the International Technical Programme Advisor (ITPA), will make available their knowledge and extensive experience in the field of competition and consumer protection policies.

Moreover, in line with the activities of COMPAL, UNCTAD will coordinate with UNDP local offices to represent it at local seminars and to deal with particular administrative tasks.
