UNCTAD holds consultations with Prime Minister Office and Congress to discuss the Draft Code on Consumer Protection

At the request of the Prime Minister Office (PCM), UNCTAD participated in series of consultations organized by the Government for congressional Commission, INDECOPI, Private Sector, Professional Associations, and Consumer Association in order to discuss the draft Code on Consumer Protection. UNCTAD provided commentaries on the substantive content of the Draft Code as well as its application drawing on UNCTAD experience in the field of consumer protection, including the UN Guidelines on Consumer Protection as well as the regional COMPAL project.
One of the outcomes of the meeting was the agreement, in principle, to include a mandatory periodic Peer Review on the application of the Code on Consumer Protection within UNCTAD. In addition, the Congressional Commission on Consumer Protection has requested UNCTAD technical assistance in the finalization of the Draft Code.
