UNCTAD together with the national project coordinators is currently executing COMPAL II activities in various countries. These countries are:
COMPAL beneficiary countries:
Bolivia: UNCTAD carried out a mission from 20 to 21 July 2009
Colombia: UNCTAD and the Competition Agency are implementing a number of activities in accordance to the Plan of action (see briefing of the activities)
Costa Rica: With the support of both agencies (COPROCOM and DAC), UNCTAD is implementing two new activities under COMPAL II which will strenghten the institutional framework of COPROCOM and DAC (see briefing of the new activities)
El Salvador: UNCTAD carried out a mission from 23 to 24 July 2009 in order to sign the Memorandum of Understanding with the "Superintendencia de Competencia" and "Defensoría del Consumidor". During the mission, UNCTAD staff also discussed the Annual Operative Plans.
Nicaragua: UNCTAD is currenlty planning a mission to Nicaragua in order to take part of a training course for Competition case handlers. The mission is planned for 24 - 30 September 2009.
Peru: The competition agency is already executing the activities with the substantive backstopping of UNCTAD. A number of activities have been prioritized for 2009. (see briefing of activities)
Other COMPAL members, as part of the COMPAL Platform for Action:
Dominican Republic: UNCTAD carried out a mission from 16 to 17 July 2009. Currently, three sectoral in-depth studies are implemented which will strenthen the advocacy strategy of local institutions.
Ecuador: UNCTAD carried out two missions from 21 - 24 July 2009. Part I was dedicated to discuss a document project with the new head of the Competition authority, at the Ministry of Industry and Productive. The proposal aims at strengthening competition and consumer protection. Part II entailed the participation of staff at the workshop on the Interaction of Competition and Intellectual Property Rights.
