...with a view to preparing and implementing a national plan that incorporates competition and consumer issues in schools (primary and secondary).
During the first year of the COMPAL Programme Nicaragua Project (2005), an assessment will be made of the current situation in the national education system. To this end, the experience of other Latin American countries on the subject (mainly Peru) will be analysed and a consumer educational plan will be determined targeting primary and secondary education. It is expected to be able to evaluate the gradual implementation of the plan at national level.
In 2006, the second year of the Programme, it is planned to select and prepare educational material (to be disseminated within the media, radio and TV). The material will include a theoretical framework and practical activities for each educational level. Additionally, a monitoring and evaluation system will be introduced in order to tackle competition and consumer protection issues effectively within the educational system.
In 2007, it is planned to revise the plan of action and prepare material for training teachers in primary and secondary schools. The training of trainers will be undertaken by consultants. Finally, it is planned to organise a workshop that will be given by the consultants. The main objective of this activity is to develop the capacity of teachers to train future responsible consumers.
