Launching Activity B.1.5, referring to the Internships Programme in COMCO | to be implemented in Bolivia
In Bolivia, this activity will take place over the year 2005. Two officials of SIRESE and a third by an official from the Ministry of Economic Development will participate in this activity.

Further, the Bolivia Project Management Committee (PMC) will be in charge of selecting candidates and present a shortlist UNCTAD and COMCO.

The expected outputs will be the following:

  • The intern will have learned interesting aspects of the Swiss competition system and which may be useful to consider for possible amendments to Bolivian regulations on competition.
  • The intern will have identified commonalities between Switzerland and Bolivia, in terms of competition and may identify possible synergies.
  • The intern will have learned about the details of the COMPAL Programme aiming at strengthening institutions and capacities in some Latin American countries and update his/her knowledge of competition law and policy in developed and developing countries.
  • The intern will have increased the general knowledge on competition law and policy issues.
  • The intern will have learned different ways and strategies for undertaking competition investigations, which could be applied to Bolivian cases.

Finally, we envisage that the ways in which COMCO will benefit from the exchange experiences with Latin American Competition-related Officials will be the following:

  • COMCO will benefit from the exchange of information, including cases, final decisions, legal documents and intercultural exchange.
  • COMCO will wider its knowledge in foreign competition systems by working together with interns of Latin-American countries.
  • COMCO will take actively part in international discussions on technical assistance by hosting interns from Latin-American countries.
  • COMCO will cooperate more closely with SECO on this common COMPAL Programme. Thereby it will enhance its contacts with other national authorities (Swiss authorities).
  • COMCO officials will make the experience to exchange working knowledge with international colleagues.

On a more general basis, COMCO will also benefit on a cultural level from this COMPAL Programme, project for Bolivia.
