... intends to develop the main mechanisms required to identify anti-competitive practices in the following sectors:
-
flour and cooking oil market,
-
public transport,
-
electricity generation,
-
cement,
-
mobile telephony and services of added value, and
-
raw materials for agricultural products
To this end, COMPAL will establish, with the support of specialised consultants, a basic information network on markets, standardization of information, studies and reports that will contribute to create a group of experts specializing on the analysis of competition in these markets that will be under the jurisdiction of a future competition agency in Nicaragua.
The aim of the activity is therefore to ensure that a critical mass of national experts is formed in order to support COMPAL in Nicaragua, including participation in workshops and seminars to ensure that the outcomes are disseminated in all required contexts.
In 2005, studies are envisaged on selected commodities (flour and cooking oil) and public transport.
It is expected that through this activity, members of the future competition agency, among other officials and actors in Nicaragua, will build capacity to investigate markets that are susceptible to anti-competitive practices and make decisive proposals. In addition, it is hoped to attain a better knowledge of the potentials and obstacles faced by the sectors under analysis.
