12-15 December 2006
In partnership with the Minister of Tourism (MoT) of Cambodia, an E-tourism/TrainforTrade seminar will be held in Phnom Penh from 12 to 15 December 2006.
Its objectives are to provide participants with relevant instruments for assessing the opportunities and impact of ICTs in the tourism sector, and to highlight the different responsibilities of parties involved in the definition of a national e-tourism strategy for development. A case study on the national situation of tourism and related e-strategies has been conducted in September and October; it will be presented jointly with other recent Asian case studies (Vietnam, August 2006; Sri Lanka, September 2006) and the conclusions will serve as an essential input for the seminar.
A special emphasis will be put on: a) the relationship between ICT and tourism, b) the Destination Management Systems (DMS): an outcome of the Internet revolution, c) the formulation of a national strategy for e-tourism: a prerequisite for the implementation of a DMS, d) relevant case studies with a special focus on Cambodia, and e) a role play on the implementation of a national e-tourism strategy.
On 15 December a "Management Summary Session" will be held encompassing decision-makers, senior managers and donors to define a plan of actions for the way forward.
