Context

The objective of the Ministerial Meeting is to acquaint ministers with the themes and subthemes of the conference and the expected outcome. Ministers and senior oficials will be fully briefed on the substantive and political significance of the conference and the implications of the outcome for their respective countries. The meeting is, therefore, a coordination meeting. In keeping with past practice, the meeting is expected to adopt a political declaration highlighting key issues of interest to the least developed countries and the international support measures needed to address the developmental challenges facing these countries. The ministers will also provide guidance to their negotiators on some of the pending issues, with the possibility of adopting formal and collective positions as may be needed. The meeting is expected to adopt a political declaration highlighting key issues of interest to the LDCs and international support measures needed to address the developmental challenges facing these countries.

Selected ministers together with senior management of UNCTAD will hold press conferences at the end of the meeting.
