International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) | Tropical Timber Trade and Development Dialogue
Is the tropical timber trade contributing to sustainable development?

 Context | Programme | Documents

Context

The tropical timber industry and its associated trade employ hundreds of thousands of people and make large contributions to export earnings in some of the world's poorest countries. On the other hand, the industry has been criticized in recent years for, among other things, causing forest destruction and paying insufficient attention to community concerns. At this side event, to be held in São Paulo, Brazil, during UNCTAD XI, high-level panellists will debate the contribution of the tropical timber trade to development and how it can be maximized.
