Among the major parallel events of UNCTAD XI is the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) Annual Conference, which will be held on 15-16 June 2004. This conference is considered the world’s largest international gathering of investment promotion agencies (IPAs), whose aim is to facilitate the exchange of best practices in foreign investment promotion.
This year the WAIPA Annual Conference will bring together investment strategists, leading economists and researchers to discuss controversial issues relating to the global investment climate. These issues will be debated during interactive sessions on "FDI Creating or Stealing Jobs" and "Leveraging FDI for Increased Export Competitiveness". Two sessions will be dedicated to discussing "Developing Your Economy as Part of the Global Supply Chain", featuring two case studies on tourism and the automotive industry. Other plenary sessions will include: "Global FDI Trends and Prospects 2005-2007", releasing the results of a tripartite survey conducted among 200 TNCs, location consultants and IPAs, "Aligning IPAs’ Strategy with Government Development Goals" and "Helping Your Companies Invest Abroad".
