The voluntary peer review on competition policy in Jamaica provides an opportunity to conduct an in-depth examination of the experience gained by the Jamaica Fair Trading Commission in the enforcement of competition policy over the last five years. To this end, the Secretariat has prepared a detailed report which is made available in English only as well as a 16 page summary and overview of the main findings and recommendations, which is produced in all UN languages.
The peer review process will be conducted in two stages:
First, a presentation of the report will be made by the consultant and followed by an in-depth examination by the chair and two peer reviewers.
Secondly, the Jamaican competition official will be given an opportunity to ask questions and clarify some of the recommendations, particularly on their applications in other jurisdictions. In this connection, other competition agencies will be requested to submit written comments and suggestions on the peer review report. All delegates may make interventions during the peer review discussions, time permitting.
The peer review will conclude with a discussion on the way forward and capacity building and technical assistance which can be extended to the Jamaica Fair Trading Commission.
