Urbis represents an unprecedented opportunity for debate and exchange of experiences on municipal management. More than 30,000 people participated in Urbis 2002 and 2003. In 2004, we count on your participation. Cities are now recognized as partners in the challenge of facing the problems affecting the whole planet.
Urbis 2004 will focus on the relationship between the major metropolitan regions of the world and development strategies at the regional, national and global levels. The development issue is once again in the foreground of international debate. At Urbis 2004, discussion of this issue takes on particular significance because of UNCTAD XI, to be held in conjunction with Urbis, with a focus on economic development and its various implications, particularly for poor countries.
In 2004, Urbis will count on the presence of municipal and metropolitan administrators, universities, non-governmental organizations and experts from Brazil and abroad, presenting and discussing cutting-edge public policies in urban management. Development is the greatest challenge in this millennium, and cities can make an invaluable contribution to building a planet with more justice and solidarity.
