Context

LatinPharma is an event focusing on the pharmaceutical industry (with which the private sector can create links) and on research institutes and universities. An open forum that contributes to the development of the industry by presenting new concepts, exchanging information, and creating the crucial knowledge base to aid businesses in exploring market opportunities. The event is organized mainly for the benefit of small and medium-size companies in Latin America.

LatinPharma had its debut in 2002 in El Salvador and was subsequently held in 2003 in Peru. There, LatinPharma gathered over 300 participants from nine Latin American countries and resulted in negotiated deals worth US$7 million. In Brazil, LatinPharma 2004 will have a similar business-oriented platform. It will include an e-mail-based discussion forum; a series of conferences; and a buyers/sellers meeting where specialists will offer free counseling to businesses in areas such as quality, packaging, international marketing and scientific research. The main objective of the event is to promote intra-regional trade and, by fostering strategic alliances among local partners, improve the region&apo;s competitiveness in the pharmaceutical industry.
